Using a Shearwater Swift AI Transmitter with your NERD2
Переглядів 3,7 тис.2 роки тому
This video shows how the Swift air integrated transmitter from Shearwater Research can display your onboard and off-board tank pressures when diving a rebreather. Now with Shearwater's firmware 84, the NERD2 will display up to 4 tank pressures along with your PO2 information, making it an ideal all-in-one monitoring solution for the rebreather diver.

Have you ever thought about trying a rebreather? Check this out. Rebreathers are typically though to be large, heavy, complex. difficult and unnecessary. The KISS Spirit rebreathers are the same weight as a regular tank, very simple and fun to dive. Watch this 80 second video as James conducts his first rebreather experience with Divetech's KISS instructor, Drew McArthur.
A 30 second turtle encounter

Why do we love rebreathers? For many reasons, but the improved marine life encounters can't be beat when diving silent. Enjoy this 30 second video of a Hawksbill turtle I encountered while diving on Divetech's house reef, on the northwest point of Grand Cayman. Shot using a Nikon Z50 in a Nauticam housing with an WWL-C lens.

Cave Diving in Grand Cayman
Переглядів 6924 роки тому
Some unedited footage from Mike Young's exploration of some cave diving leads we discovered in Grand Cayman. This sequence is 2 unedited clips, showing the exit from the maximum penetration point, to the cavern zone. This entranceway is tidal, with freshwater output and almost certainly leads somewhere. On the days we dived it, we didn't have much rain so outflow was non-existent, making explor...

Diving the Shearwater NERD
Переглядів 3 тис.4 роки тому
In May 2011, I was diving with Bruce Partridge of Shearwater Research off one of Grand Cayman's many dive sites. He swam up to me underwater and showed me his latest invention - a prototype of what was to become the Shearwater Near Eye Remote Display, or NERD. The NERD is basically a heads-up display, that shows all of your dive information right in your mask at all times. When Bruce and I surf...

Is it visibility?
4:10 this also indicates to the tester that the three O2 sensor are still reporting as intended within the expected and acceptable range. As the galvanic O2 chemical reactive sensors age this is a as all tech divers know is a major safety point stay on top of. That being said we still hear of divers diving on expired O2 sensors to their dismay... Sad really but we need to be beyond religious on GO/NO GO testing!
Having the Teric set to purple text, and the Descent to white text is not comparing apples to apples. Show the Teric with white text and compare it to the Descent with white text.
This that put a label jerk....
Awesome setup. All said and done, what is everything retail? (context: getting my TDI adv. nitrox and Decomp Procedures this weekend :D:D)
As someone whom produces and pressure test hoses I wouldn't recommend most divers to produce their own hoses like this or adjust lengths. There are so many different fittings and hose manufacturers and the specs at which most hoses are usually produced go down to 0,1 mm tolerances. The hoses can be thick and thin, can have braiding etc... there are very many variables come into play that make this unsafe for a layman.
I want to dive this so bad! My question can I book as trip a single diver?
Can anyone give me some kind of rough idea of the cost and time needed to get open water certified? These rebreathers would be so much fun in the lake and local creeks. There are so many bluffs and deep holes I'd like to see the bottom of around here.
6k+ average $7500
@@scrappyweeman4952Is that JUST to get certified or does that include the basic equipment too?
Is there any chance to split one cable and use two computer at the sametime? And i can use in all rebreathers?
I would also suggest that you mention expiration dates, not replacing every cell that has the same expiration date. You simply don't want multiple cells to fail at or about the same time. Just like hard drives within a datacenter.
A major issue with identifying the proper cable length here is that the garment must also be considered. This person may find out later, when he puts his 7mm wetsuit on, the cable is a little short.
why don't you just calibrate it to air and save the oxygen?
Because of the decay for the cells
@@SeattleRingHunter I would want to calibrate the re-breather as close to where I wanted it, or where it should be, when being used. If you calibrate it with air, it would be most accurate at air, and become less accurate as O2 decreased/increased. If you calibrate it at O2, it would most accurate at O2 and become less accurate as the O2 dropped. Air is ~1/4 of O2 -- quite far away. Furthermore and more importantly, having a complicated calibration procedure is not a good idea when your life is on the line.
Darn, the link is broken now
I’m getting more sold on a Spirit more and more. Thx bro.
Nice video. About to start CCR + Nerd training next week. Mind sharing how you overlayed the nerd display?
Really good footage! Thank you
Do you do try dives on the Sidewinder? If so, what harness is available to use?
This channel is so underrated. Quick valuable priceless information
HI, do you run dive trips to this cave? Where is this cave located?
No thanks.
I absolutely love Mike Young!!! Hes a genuine soul. I like Dive Talk as well....l beleive they both work at KISS in some form or fashion like instructors or something...theyre definetly pros and l absolutely love how they preach safety 1St and they dont seem to have massive egos......which can kill in the industry unfortunately so we gotta keep our egos in check.
Just wondering how do you recommend we monitor our bailout gas if we are bailed out and off the loop, when using Swift transmitters on your bail out and are using the NERD 2 as a Controller, as per your video, thanks.
Assuming you have no reason to look at your NERD2 after you BO (e.g. your backup computer matches the nerd for deco info, etc), then you can have the same air integration (AI) on the Perdix and can monitor all the same sensors in the same way. Remember that enabling AI on your devices increases battery consumption, but the NERD is rechargeable and the Perdix AI lasts a very long time on cheap AA's.
Makes me want to go dive!
Nice, but costs twice as much as a new hose in proper length.
What if you can't find it the proper length? Hoses come in fixed length like 22 or 18 inches. What if you need a 19.5 inch hose?
❤️🌹
Very dry and scripted video. Your reading right from your notes and it's noticeable. zero personality
Hey Tony - do you know if you are able to change the sensor read outs from PSI to BAR?
Great video. The naming part was a nice quick thing. Saved me searching for it in the computer.
Super Cool
i do 3d.... is there any other kind of rendering besides digital???
I mean you could render something in real space with clay or something so they say "digital" rendering to imply that it's on a computer and not a physical mockup.
@tonymorris4335 I guess the term could be used in claymation and 2d animation or anytime multiple images put in together to make a moving image... I just always thought of "rendering" as actually using cpu/gpu to compute and calculate out a 3d image....
Hello Divetech, my name is Duane Smith (RM3) and I served with Pete on the Kittiwake. We were good friends and roommates...he taught my wife Connie how to shoot some interesting weapons. Anyway, I have been trying to find Pete for years. It's nice to finally find him and see him diving thru the kittiwake. If Pete is able, please have him contact me....desdesign65(at)gmail...thank you.
Nice, thank you. I watch the Dive Talk channel and know they use the KISS.
I wish I had tried this when diving with you guys in 2018. Missed opportunity, I guess I will have to go back to Grand Cayman. .
While I want to try scuba diving eventually, I am absolutely terrified of the rebreathers. No matter how much research I do I still can't seem to understand how exactly they work. It may just be me, but then again I have exactly zero training in this so my knowledge on the subject other than what I have read online is completely null X3.
Hi Jake, Like cars, the different makes and models of rebreathers can range from very complex to extraordinarily simple. Regardless of brand, the concept of a rebreather is fairly simple.
This is the worst and most misleading comparison i have ever seen 😌
Hi Patric, Did you read the actual review? And I'm curious why you dislike the comparison. Please elaborate.
You have the Garmin with White Characters and the Teric on Purple... Daaa Garmin will look better. Put the Teric on Cyan or White and try again. For the Record, I used the Red Color and found the same issue, I have had no issues with the Teric in White or Cyan. Saw a MK2 at Paradise Springs, FL.... Yeah not that much brighter then my Teric on the surface. Underwater, the Teric won.
Thanks, I start my training on my Back lung Prism 2 rebreather this spring/summer. Looking forward to expanding my knowledge and learning new skills.
That’s not drew, it’s Michael Madsen
Very nice written review. It pretty much sums up what i was thinking. As pointed out in another comment, the brightness on the Teric may be turned up full but you selected a color scheme that has very low contrast. For example all yellow or white text on a black background would have looked twice as bright.
It’s not a handle... it’s there to help you route your hoses under the elastic bands.
A bit disappointing the MK2.... I prefer the design of the MK1, looks stronger with the metal boarder.... The MK2 is by far to expensive! Not worth to upgarde from MK1 to MK2 I would say.
I won't speak to the cost of the MK2 - it is expensive. However the metal bezel is titanium and having owned both the MK2 and MK1, this is as sturdy as the MK1.
Thanks mate, made it simple to understand - Cheers from Australia
with a low contrast color scheme on the teric it isn't really a fair comparison and was the light setting on high?
Hi. To be clear we are huge Shearwater fans here, and the Teric is an amazing computer - we're not knocking it. The screen setting on the Teric was a bright as it would go. The purpose of this video is more to show how well the Descent does in sunlight due to it's different display. If you read my review, where I compare the 2 displays, I write they both have their strengths and weaknesses. The Descent is much easier to see in bright light, but in any dim or dark light the Teric is much better.
@@DivetechLtdWestBay hi there! Where can I read your comparison review about these dive computers? It's a rare information in the internet as l see for now. Thank you
@@pavlovrublevskyi2960 Hi, the link to the article is in the description: www.divetech.com/post/review-of-the-garmin-descent-mk2i
@@DivetechLtdWestBay Thanks 🤗
@@DivetechLtdWestBay He is not talking about how bright you had it set. He is saying that you used a Low contrast color scheme on the Teric. This will be more pleasing when you dive but about half as bright in direct sunlight. You unintentialy set the Teric up to fail.
Great video would love to see more
